Last Saturday Night in a flurry friends and a pony keg of Widmer Brothers W'07 Pale Ale we expanded into the space right next to our existing location. We now have three service benches, a little bit more retail space and some room to breathe. We will continue to use the older location for new bicycle storage and as an auxillary office. We have been planning a change since the end of last season, but we were finally able to move in last week. The last few weeks prior to the move were difficult as we attempted to accommodate the community's needs in the cramped space. Three mechanics in one workbench = bad. Summer is nearly upon us and we really need the extra room.
Staff Update. We now have Clay Malecka, Jake Furniss, Ryan Vergeront, "Verge," and myself in the shop for the season. This is very good!
In the few weeks we have worked together, I have enjoyed listening to Clay relay his cycling experiences to customers. His easy going style and character are reflected in each interaction. He often combines stories about the region or bicycle heritage in his explanations to the folks. It is cool to learn what has worked for him and be able to bring those things to our customers. We are glad to have him in the shop!
Jake returns to the shop from the academic abyss for the summer. He walked in with an ipod full of new demonrock and started cranking out the work like he never left. His recent personal battles with recumbentry have left him a bit more appreciative of the commuter phenomenon which seems like a plus. I am still afraid the he will still never personally own a properly geared bicycle. Fixed gear, off road, recumbent trike. It needs to be created. Great to have him back!
Verg, Verge, Serge, Berg, Ryan whatever you are called, somehow you are still with us. Bending space and time to manage a freelance near-pro race schedule and over full time service employment at two local shops, this guy kills it! He will be in and out of the shop over the summer kicking out the bicycle repair, service etc. Stop in to hear tales of late nights/early mornings and strange cycling situations.
Also I will still be here, shuffling papers and making messes.
Come by to check out the new space.
